Verizon Wants to Install a Cell Tower on Florida's Gasparilla Island Causeway

Boca Beacon reports, during last week’s Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority board meeting, Verizon requested permission to place a cellular tower on the GIBA causeway, and members decided to take the request under consideration. In other business, authority executive director Kathy Banson-Verrico briefed the board on the progress of a toll collection system upgrade, which is entering a final phase that involves completion of a customer service module and creation of a new GIBA website.

Northern Italy Tollway Viaduct Partially Collapses under Landslide

Reuters reports, shares in Italian infrastructure group ASTM and the toll road concession company it controls, SIAS Group, are down as much as two percent today following yesterday’s partial collapse of an A6 motorway viaduct near Savona, in Liguria, following “a massive landslide caused by recent heavy rain.” No casualties have been reported, but the highway remains closed in both directions. A statement issued by SIAS calls the incident “exceptional” and says the landslide originated on land above the motorway that does not belong to the concession company.
