Researchers Prepare For Highway Tests Of Inductive Vehicle Charging
Stateline takes an in-depth look at plans to test pavement-embedded electromagnetic inductive charging technology on US public highways in Michigan, Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Utah. Researchers expect to demonstrate on a small scale the practicality of charging electric vehicles while they are in motion in order to extend battery range and eliminate or reduce charging station stops. Tallis Blalack, managing director of the ASPIRE research center, explains how the technology may also remove major impediments to the electrification of the long-haul commercial truck fleet, thereby reducing transportation costs and harmful emissions.
