NY Thruway Transitions Smoothly To AET, Says Farewell To Toll Collectors

The New York State Thruway Authority confirmed its successful conversion to all-electronic tolling at 1 :00 AM on Saturday, November 14. The authority reminded motorists to drive cautiously through the obsolete toll plazas as workers begin the task of structural demolition and road reconfiguration. Authority chief  executive Matthew Driscoll once again thanked former toll collection workers for their decades of service.

Democrat and Chronicle reports, long-time toll collection workers are feeling sad and nostalgic even though they’ve had several years to prepare for the coming of AET. One tollbooth veteran, in a video interview, talks about what motorists will miss now that thruway tollbooths are empty and the collection system no longer has a human face.
