Transurban Starts 395 Express Tolling on Sunday

WTOP looks ahead to Sunday’s start of tolls and new HOV restrictions on Transurban’s 395 Express, an eight-mile extension of the company’s I-95 tolled express lanes. The article includes a users guide with detailed information about the facility’s rates and operations. WTOP notes, “In order to complete the switch from rush-hour-only HOV lanes to 24/7 toll lanes, the lanes will be closed from [tonight] until sometime Sunday to change signage and complete other finishing work. Construction will remain in the corridor to put up new noise walls and do other construction that was folded into the contract. . . .”

Northeast US States Are Exploring Implementation of a Regional Fuel Tax

“Land Line” Magazine reports, a group of US states are looking at “[w]hat amounts to a cap-and-trade plan” as a response to the reduction in federal aid for transportation programs. The “Transportation and Climate Initiative” brings together eight Democratic and four Republican governors who are exploring the possibility of imposing a regional fuel tax to raise new funds for transit and EV program development and bring down emission levels by discouraging vehicle use.
