MassDOT Completes Rapid Turnpike Bridge Replacement On Time
The second of two weekends of intense construction and traffic restrictions on a segment of the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) ended last night when crews finished demolishing and replacing a highway bridge that crosses over a major rail line. The work was part of the multiyear I-495 and I-90 Interchange Improvements project.
Over the weekends (May 30-June 1 and June 20-June 22) “crews removed 332 cubic yards of concrete, installed 31 precast bridge units and 205 cubic yards of rapid set concrete, and had 85 workers on-site around the clock.” Future construction, expected to reach completion in 2028, will focus on replacing interchange ramps and the turnpike mainline bridges over I-95 and the Charles River.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a National Terrorism Advisory System bulletin yesterday, June 22, warning of a “heightened threat environment in the United States” due to Saturday’s air strikes on Iran. No specific threats were noted. Instead, the government advised that “low-level cyber attacks against US networks by pro-Iranian hacktivists are likely, and cyber actors affiliated with the Iranian government may conduct attacks against US networks.” The bulletin also noted that “Both hacktivists and Iranian government-affiliated actors routinely target poorly secured US networks and Internet-connected devices for disruptive cyber attacks.”

Today is the first day of the second annual Global Road Safety Week campaign sponsored by the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA).
The theme of the 2025 campaign, “Be Safe Together,” is drawing attention to the life-saving potential of collective action to make highway travel safer. An international webinar featuring presenters from the North Texas Tollways Authority, the Ohio Turnpike And Infrastructure Commission, PIARC World Road Association, VINCI Highways, the Association of French Motorway Companies, and other member entities kicked off the event today. IBTTA and its partners will spotlight a different road safety issue each day through Friday.
