Kansas Turnpike Authority And Love’s Travel Stops Complete Four Remodels
The Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) will host ribbon-cutting ceremonies this month to celebrate the completion of remodeling projects at four Love’s Travel Stops along the turnpike, in Belle Plaine, Towanda, Matfield Green, and Topeka.
All service areas remained open through construction, which included modernization of the sales floors to improve customer flow. The Belle Plaine and Towanda locations now feature a new drink center and gas counter, and the Belle Plaine location has gained an additional restaurant.
“We’re focused on creating a turnpike experience that feels modern, reliable and customer-centered,” said KTA CEO Steve Hewitt. “Strong partnerships like this one help make that possible.”

On July 2, Governor Kelly Ayotte (R) vetoed Senate Bill 627, which would have increased tolls for anyone driving without a state-issued E-ZPass transponder, New Hampshire Bulletin reports. The measure was designed to help pay for infrastructure upgrades without burdening most New Hampshire residents.
“I have clearly said that I do not support raising the tolls,” Ayotte wrote in her veto message. The governor, who is campaigning for re-election on a promise not to increase tolls or taxes, vetoed eight other bills the same day, many of which, like SB 627, had been championed by lawmakers from her own party.
New Hampshire Turnpike rates were last adjusted 19 years ago.

The Times of India and NDTV report that five people have died and more than a dozen vehicles were “gutted” in the fire that broke out after a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas crashed into a toll plaza in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh.
CCTV footage “shows two tankers approaching the toll plaza when one of them suddenly veers out of control, mounts the divider and ploughs into the toll booths at high speed.” As fuel spilled from the tanker, the toll plaza and nearby vehicles were engulfed in flames. An investigation is underway.
The plaza is located on the Prayagraj-Kanpur highway, which is operated by the National Highways Authority of India.
