Tennessee DOT Schedules I-24 Choice (Express) Lanes Project Hearings

Tennessee DOT has scheduled a series of formal public hearings next week on its proposed I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project in Davidson and Rutherford Counties. The events will give the public an opportunity to review and comment on the recently approved environmental assessment and recommended preferred alternative TDOT unveiled as part of the process for securing final federal environmental approval of the state’s first tolled managed lanes project.

The hearings will take take place from 5:00 to 7:30 PM on March 3 in East Smyrna, and on March 4 and March 5 in Nashville. Beginning March 3, public hearing materials — including technical reports, project displays, and a slide presentation — will be available for download on the project web page. TDOT will accept public comment in various formats from March 3 through March 26.

Kansas DOT And KTA Open State's First Express Lanes On Schedule

69Express, Kansas DOT’s first dynamically tolled express lanes, opened on time on Saturday morning, February 21, in Overland Park. The facility, which includes one six-mile toll lane in each direction, is the product of an initiative to reconstruct and widen a busy, congested, and crash-prone segment of US 69 in Johnson County, part of the Kansas City metro area. At a final cost of $572 million, the project is considered the biggest in KDOT history.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority is managing the toll system for Kansas DOT. The agencies are encouraging commuters to open a KTAG account and qualify for the lowest rates. Drivers tolled by mail pay double the transponder rates displayed on 69Express signs.

The new facility is seen as a potential model for future Kansas managed lanes projects.
