CTRMA Issues RFP For Motorist Roadside Safety Services
On Friday, July 31, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) posted a request for proposals (login required) addressed to firms or teams interested in providing roadside safety services for motorists on its roadways. Services sought include assisting with minor mechanical issues (flat tires, dead batteries, overheating), providing fuel for vehicles that run out of gas, clearing debris from roadways, assisting with traffic control at incident scenes, contacting towing services or emergency vehicles when needed, and helping motorists get to safety.
CTRMA has scheduled a mandatory Pre-submission Conference via Microsoft Teams for August 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM Central. Vendors can attend via the web or by telephone. The deadline to submit RFP responses via CIVCAST is September 24, 2026. CTRMA expects to schedule vendor interviews in early November and select a vendor on or about November 18. It anticipates issuing a notice to proceed in January 2027.

A 34,000-pound industrial oven fell off a truck and onto the Dallas North Tollway during the July 30 afternoon rush hour, prompting a full closure of all southbound lanes that evening and damaging a bridge beam of an I-635 overpass struck in the crash. The Dallas Morning News reports it was a single-vehicle accident with no injuries.
“The bridge remains structurally sound,” a spokesperson for the North Texas Tollway Authority said. “However, as a precaution, we will keep the westbound lane of the bridge over Dallas North Tollway closed to traffic until repairs are completed.” According to a traffic advisory NTTA posted on social media, only the right-hand lane of the westbound bridge is currently closed.
No timeline for the repairs has been released.

Si Woo Kim, in Detroit for the Rocket Classic tournament, made headlines when he took a wrong turn on his way to dinner, found himself at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, and ended up in Canada without his passport.
The Detroit News reports that Kim “tried to turn around but it was one way, and the border-patrol agent told him he had to go through to the other side first. Then, on the Canadian side of the tunnel, and without his passport, he eventually was met by eight agents, some of whom inspected his courtesy car. He was ‘freaking out.’ Eventually, he was allowed back through.”
Although he was ninety minutes late for his dinner appointment with fellow PGA golfer Michael Kim, Si Woo found humor in the mishap — and was quickly joined by the tunnel operator itself.
“FREE TOLL FOR SI WOO KIM,” the tunnel authority posted on its entrance sign. Authority CEO Tal Czudner later extended a personal invitation to Kim from the grounds of the Detroit Golf Club. “But please bring your passport,” Czudner added.
TRN notes that Si Woo Kim finished the tournament tied for 42nd place overall, but made other headlines with this astounding 31-foot putt for a birdie on the 11th hole.
