Three Transaction Advisors Vie For Bahrain’s Northern Link Road Contract
Bahrain’s Ministry of Works is considering bids from KPMG Advisory, EY Consulting, and PricewaterhouseCoopers Bahrain to serve as transaction advisor for the pending 30-km (18.6-mile) Northern Link Road, an east-west route planned to run parallel to the Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway, The Daily Tribune reports.
Although official project descriptions for the passenger and freight route connecting Khalifa Bin Salman Port with Saudi Arabia does not explicitly indicate the new facility will be tolled, the advertised bid specifications for financial, technical, and legal advice required both P3 and tolling expertise.
The Northern Link Road “is planned as part of a ring-road network linking towns and new development areas across northern Bahrain, including the site of a future airport.” The area is expected to house more than 600,000 people.
“Earlier plans for the road included about 14 sea bridges and 10 multi-level junctions, along with links aimed at easing access to Seef District and villages along Budaiya Highway.”

Traffic has nearly doubled on the new Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway since tolls were suspended August 5 due to a slippage in the pavement, The Times of India reports. However, the increased traffic is making it harder for the concessionaire, PNC Infratech LTD, to make the necessary repairs on the INR 4,200 crore (USD 440.7 million) expressway, which opened July 13.
“Officials indicated that allowing heavier and higher traffic while attempting long-term restoration may be incompatible.” The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is reportedly planning a technical audit under the guidance of IIT Kharagpur professor K.S. Reddy. In the meantime, the agency began restricting truck traffic on the new facility last week.

Croatia is progressing toward implementation of an electronic toll collection system, with more than 220 gantries scheduled for completion by October and an estimated launch date in 2027, Total Croatia News reports. But Hrvoje Ordulj, traffic sector director at Croatian Motorways, is already tempering expectations.
“‘Regardless of barriers or the new toll collection system, traffic will stand still if the load is too high,’” Ordulj said in a recent television appearance.
However, he also provided an update on other key projects underway, including continued construction of the Novi Vinodolski bypass. The Matulji junction has also been completed, and a “full-profile motorway” could connect Istria and Kvarner as soon as the first quarter of next year, with work intensifying after the summer tourist season draws to a close.
