Transurban-VDOT Express Lanes Project Enters Final Work Phase

Potomac Local News reports, Virginia DOT is asking passing motorists to exercise caution and patience as the FredEx (I-95 express lanes southern extension) project enters its final construction phase this spring and summer. Transurban, the facility’s concessionaire, and its contractors expect to reach substantial completion and open about ten miles of new tolled, managed lanes by late this year. All work is projected to wrap up in spring 2024. The project includes construction of three new toll lane access points at exits 148, 140 and 133.

MTA Seizes 20 Cars In Scofflaw Crackdown

CBS News New York reports, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority seized 20 cars on Monday in a crackdown on toll scofflaws at the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge In all, the owners of the 20 cars were collectively responsible for almost $600,000 in unpaid tolls and fees. “The MTA also issued a warning, saying bridge and tunnel officers have the [tools] they need to find persistent violators no matter how many tricks they try.” The MTA seized 1,800 vehicles in 2022 for unpaid tolls.

Illinois Tollway Director Alice Gallagher Has Died

The Doings (via Chicago Tribune) reports, Alice Gallagher, a member of the Illinois Tollway Authority board since 2019, died unexpectedly yesterday after suffering a stroke. Ms. Gallagher, an attorney, had a extensive record of public service and was also currently serving as president of Western Springs Village.

Tollway authority executive director Cassaundra Rouse issued a statement of condolence on behalf of the board and staff, noting that Ms. Gallagher “was respected for her thoughtful leadership” and her consistent advocacy for communities along the Central Tri-State Tollway.
