Tony Tavares Nominated To Lead Caltrans

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he has nominated engineer Tony Tavares to serve as director of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). Tavares was director of the department’s District 7 (Los Angeles and Ventura Counties), and he has been a Caltrans staffer since 1997. (Tavares replaces Steven Keck, who became acting director in March after Toks Omishakin’s elevation to secretary of the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA).)

Norway May Phase Out EV Toll Discounts

electrive.com reports, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration is proposing to reduce and ultimately eliminate the 50-percent toll discount enjoyed by electric vehicle drivers as part of a wider plan to reduce preferences for vehicles without internal combustion engines. Both the administration and the country’s transport ministry are searching for ways to reduce car traffic, and they maintain “the benefits for electric cars are one of the reasons why public transport use is still low compared to the years before the Covid 19 pandemic.” The article notes that about 500,000 electric cars are in operation In Norway.
