New Jersey Rechristens Service Areas To Honor State Luminaries

NJ.com reports, “New Jersey is looking to highlight its prodigious cultural lineage by giving a new group of local icons a very Jersey honor: naming a rest stop after them. Gov. Phil Murphy celebrated National New Jersey Day — yes, that’s a thing — on Tuesday by announcing the state’s turnpike authority is re-naming [existing] service areas along the Garden State Parkway after nine members of the New Jersey Hall of Fame.” Most of the honorees are (or were) entertainers (James Gandolfini, Whitney Houston, Jon Bon Jovi and Frank Sinatra), but authors Toni Morrison and Judy Blume, and television personality Connie Chung also made the list. Each rest stop will have an exhibit on the life and accomplishments of its namesake. Bruce Springsteen “respectfully declined” to have a service area named after him.

The Dallas Morning News (together with national and international sources) reports, the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) is looking for the owner of a 20-year-old wedding dress in good condition that road workers found in a box left on the side of the Dallas North Tollway last week. NTTA speculates the box may have fallen out of or off a passing vehicle. “If the dress isn’t claimed by the owner within 90 days of its discovery, it will be auctioned off” pursuant to NTTA policy.
