Oregon DOT Scrambles To Fill Hundreds Of Winter Maintenance Job Openings

Oregon DOT finally got its badly needed funding boost earlier this week, but only after months of legislative inaction that put the department behind on hiring winter maintenance staff. Because of the lingering budget gap and a consequent hiring freeze, recruitment is only now underway when it usually occurs during the summer. “Compounding the staffing challenges,” ODOT notes, is the number of workers who departed in July and August of this year, twice as many as left in the same period of 2024.

ODOT is prioritizing filling hundreds of vacancies that exist across the state. Both seasonal and permanent positions are available.
