Mexico Allocates $4 Billion For Maintenance Of Tolled And Non-Tolled Federal Roadways
On June 3, Jesús Esteva Medina, Mexico’s Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, announced that the federal government will invest MXN 69.3 billion (USD 4 billion) this year to improve its network of tolled and toll-free roadways. The spending will advance an infrastructure rehabilitation initiative that aims to expand connectivity in rural areas and modernize the system of highway maintenance.
Although the largest share funds will be allocated to a National Road Conservation Program, federal toll highways operator Caminos y Puentes Federales (CAPUFE) will receive MXN 10.47 billion (USD 599 million) for maintenance projects. The agency will do repaving and pothole repair work across approximately 2,500 miles of roadway and carry out unspecified projects on 129 toll plazas and 22 bridges.
