Kansas Turnpike Launches Redesigned Website And KTAG Mobile App

On Friday, the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) launched a new MyKTAG mobile app and redesigned website in preparation for its 2024 transition to all-electronic tolling. According to a news release, the free app’s “user-focused design . . . allows travelers to easily manage their K-TAG toll payment account or establish a K-TAG account for the first time. . . . [C]ustomers can: view trips, edit payment method or make a payment, order a new K-TAG, add a license plate and more.” The website’s new design improves navigation and makes it easier to find information about travel and the KTA organization. The authority used customer feedback to inform the redesign process.

Cintra Proposal To NCDOT Reignites Debate Over How To Fix I-77 Problems

The Carolina Journal reports on the backdrop to the Charlotte MPO board’s announcement that it will vote on February 15 to determine whether North Carolina DOT moves ahead with a study of the addition of managed toll lanes to the I-77 corridor between Charlotte and the South Carolina border. Improving and widening the congested segment has been under discussion for years. The forthcoming MPO vote was triggered by NCDOT’s receipt last year of an unsolicited Cintra proposal to extend the managed lanes it built and operates north of Charlotte. The article looks at the public debate stirred by Cintra’s plan and how the department intends to proceed with a study if the MPO grants its approval.

BNSF Resumes Tolling Autos On Iowa Bridge

The Hawk Eye reports, this morning, BNSF Railway resumed toll collection on its double-deck, swing span toll bridge in Fort Madison, Iowa, for the first time since the 2020 onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Toll rates (starting at $2.00) are unchanged for crossing the Mississippi River from Iowa into Illinois. Tolls are not collected on traffic traveling from Illinois.

Fort Madison Daily Democrat reported in October that bridge auto traffic was subjected to a temporary three-ton weight limit after an inspection revealed “a condition” in the structure. “The discovery followed a planned inspection and highway bridge re-rating process.” (There has been no recent public update on the span’s condition.)
