Washington Senate Bill Proposes Road Usage Charge For EVs And Hybrids

KUOW reports, “Right now, [Washington State residents] who own fully electric cars pay an extra $225 annual registration fee. A proposal by state Sen. Rebecca Saldaña (D-Seattle) would replace that flat fee beginning in July 2026 with a mandatory 2 cents per mile road usage charge for electric cars and plug-in hybrids. Electric car drivers could voluntarily opt in to the pay-per-mile system a year before it becomes mandatory if they figure it would save them money.”

TCA Continues Livestock Grazing Pilot For Maintaining Conservation Area

The Transportation Corridor Agencies announced the start of a new phase of its conservation grazing pilot project in the Live Oak Plaza Conservation Area. For the next several weeks, cattle provided by and cared for by a local ranch will graze the 23.2-acre site, testing an environmentally sensitive technique for maintaining the quality of biodiversity in natural areas. Conservation grazing also helps mitigate wildfire risk and promote native vegetation growth, according to TCA’s news release.
