Illinois Tollway Launches Another Phase Of I-294 Project Today
The Illinois Tollway Authority announced that it has scheduled work to begin today on reconstruction of the I-294 bridge over Joliet Road in Indian Head Park. The project is part of the authority’s 2021 initiative to upgrade the I-55 Interchange area, which is one phase of the $4 billion Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) reconstruction and widening project.

The Oklahoman, in an article sponsored by the Olsson firm, reports that the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority partnered with Oklahoma DOT and the Chickasaw Nation to fund the transformation of a crash-prone intersection near the town of Fitzhugh. The article describes upgrades designed by Olsson that significantly improved traffic safety at the intersection of the Chickasaw Turnpike and Oklahoma State Highway 1 at a relatively low cost.

Orlando Sentinel reports, no injuries occurred Saturday morning when a small airplane made an emergency landing on the Sawgrass Expressway (the SR 869 toll road) in Coral Springs, Florida. The newspaper adds that a similar non-injury incident occurred on the highway just last August. (This is the fourth time in two months that TRN has reported on a distressed airplane using toll lanes to make an emergency landing. Just last Monday, there was an incident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike during which the aircraft and vehicles collided without injury. Earlier this month, a small airplane touched down on I-75 near the Alligator Alley toll plaza, and in mid-December, the Ohio Turnpike became a landing strip for the first time.)
