CTRMA Receives TIFIA Loan For US 183 Express Lanes Project

USDOT’s Build America Bureau has provided a $250.29 million, 35-year, low-interest TIFIA loan to the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) for the 183 North Mobility Project. In announcing the loan, deputy secretary Polly Trottenberg emphasized that the four express lanes CTRMA contemplates building “will allow Capital Metro to increase bus service during peak periods. Capital Metro recently announced its purchase of almost 200 new electric buses, the nation’s largest electric vehicle procurement to date, which will be utilized in the corridor. . . . The 183 North Mobility Project will help make public transportation and alternative modes better choices for Austin metro commuters.” The Biden administration has now approved two TIFIA loans for CTRMA.

E-470 Toll Rates Will Drop This Weekend

KKTV reminds viewers that E-470 toll rates will go down by five or ten cents (depending on the toll point) beginning January 1, and “[c]ustomers may see another $0.05 and $0.10 reduction in 2023 and in 2024 beginning on January 1 of each year,” if the authority’s board sticks to a plan adopted last month. “With recovery from the pandemic ongoing, rolling out reductions gradually over the next three years allows the E-470 Public Highway Authority to reassess toll rates and cash flows annually and adjust as needed due to recovery impacts.”
