Bloomberg BNA: "Congress May Add Tolls on Interstate"

Bloomberg BNA reports that while the Trump infrastructure plan is not final, “congressional researchers already are analyzing tolls as a way to augment the long-standing system of taxes that have built and maintained the interstates.” The report adds that the Congressional Research Service “told lawmakers they have many options to if they want to get more money out of drivers without risking the political fallout of a gas tax increase. At one extreme, it said, Congress could simply encourage tolling ‘pilot projects’ on the interstates. At the other, it could authorize states to toll federally funded highways as they see fit.”

Survey Finds WSDOT's I-405 Express Toll Lanes Are Gaining Public Support

MYNorthwest.com reports that a WSDOT survey of motorists’ attitudes about the I-405 express toll lanes found that “60 percent of people said they like having the option for express toll lanes for a faster trip. WSDOT notes that when they introduced the toll lanes in 2015, 87 percent of surveyed drivers said they did not support them.”
