Volunteer Alliance Works To Organize And Preserve US Transportation Knowledge Resources

AASHTO Journal reports on the National Transportation Knowledge Network (NTKN), a grassroots volunteer organization that works to “make research and information resources that help improve the nation’s transportation infrastructure more easily available to state departments of transportation and other industry professionals.” The article notes that “a wider array of professionals from various transportation disciplines” are starting to join the group’s core members, state DOT librarians, “particularly since transportation libraries are closing at an alarming rate.”

USDOT Funds Four New University Transportation Centers

Transportation Today reports, USDOT awarded a total of $4.925 million in research grants to fund new Tier 1 University Transportation Centers under the leadership of Ohio State University, Northwestern University, the University of Pittsburgh and the Georgia Institute of Technology. The funded research topics are “Highly Automated Transportation Systems Research,” “Communications Technology, and E-Commerce Effects on Travel Demand,” Implications of Accessible Automated Vehicles and Mobility Services for People with Disabilities,” and “Strategic Implications of Changing Public Transportation Travel Trends.”
