First Phase Of NY Thruway Service Area Rebuilds Begins This Year

WRGB reports, in his budget announcement, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo touted the state’s $450 million Thruway service area redevelopment deal with Empire State Thruway Partners. Under the terms of a 33-year lease agreement, the enterprise will use private funding to convert the highway’s 27 plazas into “full-service tourism centers,” and the state will even make money through a rent-sharing arrangement guaranteed to yield about $51 million dollars over the lease term. “According to a spokesperson with the Thruway Authority, the money will be reinvested into their Capital Program which pays for infrastructure improvements.”
