Next Phase Of South Florida I-95 Express Construction Starts May 8

South Florida Sun Sentinel reports, “Thousands of drivers crossing I-95 along Fort Lauderdale’s prominent Marina Mile should get ready for months of grinding traffic. . . . [FDOT] plans to close and replace the westbound bridge along State Road 84 as part of its latest installation of express lanes on I-95 from Miami-Dade to Broward County. The bridge work, which will affect 16,000 motorists a day, kicks off May 8 and is scheduled to run through the spring of 2022. The $1 billion express lane project started in 2019.” The article describes the complex bridge replacement strategy selected by the department to minimize construction time.

Two RI Lawmakers Continue To Press For Bridge Suicide Barrier Funding

Newport This Week reports on pending legislation (H 5053 and S 117) to require Rhode Island DOT and the the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority to erect safety barriers on the Mount Hope, Pell, and Jamestown-Verrazzano Bridges in order to prevent suicide attempts. According to the article, since a March hearing on the Senate bill, three people have jumped from RITBA-operated bridges.

"Huge" Residential Development Planned Adjacent To NTTA's Dallas North Tollway

The Dallas Morning News reports, a real estate development partnership has acquired a 700-acre parcel in suburban Collin County where it plans to build a community with 2,500 single-family homes, as well as multifamily and commercial structures. The property, described as a prime location, is located in Celina between Preston Road and the Dallas North Tollway.
