North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) people say they have signed well priced contracts for all-electronic toll systems for the new Triangle Expressway. Overall cost of three of four toll procurements was $37.6m v $46.5 engineers' prior estimate - a 19% saving.

Efkon the Graz, Austria-based toll systems company recently bought Fenrits, the Norway-based electronic toll equipment supplier which specializes in CEN 278 passive 5.8Ghz European standard gear, also sold in Asia, South America and Australia. They have a new low-power and compact ASIC or custom chip which they plan to offer in their transponders to extend battery life.
