NTTA raises posted speed limits at mainline plazas preparing for cashless

speed limits at all their mainline toll plazas to full highway speeds - granting full recognition to open road tolling. At present posted speeds from half a mile (0.8km) before the mainline toll plazas are 45mph (72km/hr) except for one plaza (DNT MLP2) where the post is 40mph (64km/hr).

New York State Thruway to commission study of future toll collection including cashless

The New York State Thruway Authority will be hiring consultants soon to study the costs and benefits of different toll collection modes including all-electronic tolling (AET), also known as cashless. The announcement was made not in any board decision, or in a press release, or in any presentation to an IBTTA conference, and there's no RFP yet. Maine Turnpike to study improvements at existing York plaza & look deeper at cashless

Maine Turnpike Authority's board have asked HNTB engineering consultants to study options for upgrading toll collection at the existing York toll plaza. HNTB are also being asked to do a more in-depth study of cashless all-electronic tolling option.

Cash toll collection is still kicking. In Maine the Turnpike Authority is pushing ahead with a planned replacement to their busiest toll plaza - the mainline plaza in York at Mile Marker 7, seven miles north of the New Hampshire border. And they plan a new $32m to $35m nineteen toll lanes plaza – 2+ 2 open road electronic toll (ORT) lanes through the middle and fifteen stop-to-pay toll lanes, eight southbound, seven northbound, straddling the ORT lanes.

North Carolina Turnpike to go for cashless - all electronic tolling chosen

North Carolina Turnpike Authority's board of directors has approved a staff recommendation that they do all electronic tolling (AET). This enables them to save $60m in capital costs on their first project, the $850m Triangle Expressway in Raleigh due to begin construction next year. The staff report also said there are safety advantages in not having some motorists peel off to stop and pay cash, then have to accelerate and merge back into the highway speed traffic.
