ETCC, WsDOT settle - no$s but contract at 520 bridge being extended 4 years


Electronic Transaction Consultants Corp (ETCC) and Washington DOT have reached a settlement of their grievances over a difficult toll systems job at the state route 520 (SR520) bridge.

The settlement involves no cash payment, but ETCC's contract to operate the back office and customer service systems for WSDOT tolling is extended from 2014 to 2018, subject to ETCC meeting some early performance measures.  The four-year contract extension ETCC says is valued at $29m but WsDOT gets 10% off that making it $26.1m by our calculator.

Toll system delays in Washington state again put political heat on WsDOT, ETCC


A report in the Tacoma News Tribune this morning turns up the political heat on Washington state DOT (WsDOT) and its back office contractor Electronic Transactions Consultants Corp (ETCC) over delays in starting tolls. The report claims ETCC would be liable for $12m in liquidated damages if the department fully enforced the contract provisions against ETCC.

Washington State plan 520 floating bridge to toll by December


After a false start to tolling of the SR520 floating bridge in Seattle last spring Washington State DOT say they are confident they'll be ready for a smoother start in December.  Contracts originally provided for a start in November 2010.

Dave Dye, WSDOT deputy secretary is quoted: “We’re confident we can start tolling SR 520 in December with a system that is reliable, accountable and able to handle more than 100,000 daily transactions."
