Ron Gravino getting back in toll biz (PERSONNEL)
By Peter Samuel
Ronald R Gravino former chairman and CEO of the New Jersey Highway Authority looks like getting back in the toll business as a new commissioner of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. He has been nominated by NJ Governor Christie. A finance/turnaround consultant Gravino has since done work for Invidi, a targeted TV marketing startup, and the big pharmaceutical company Squibb.
He is presently chairman of the Newark Liberty Airport board.
At the Garden State Parkway in the late 1990s Gravino was involved with the initial introduction of electronic tolling. In those days the Garden State Parkway was under the control of the NJ Highway Authority.
Gravino was later chairman of the Audit Committee and Liaison to the state police.
Joseph Simunovich's position on the Turnpike board has been vacant for some time and David Evans recently stepped down from the Turnpike board. The Governor is moving to fill their positions with Gravino and Samuel S Raia.
Raia is mayor of the city of Saddle River in the far north of the state. Gravino lives in Edison in the center of the state.
Both Raia and Gravino are active Republicans and supported the new Republican governor Chris Christie who won election recently. The state Senate has to confirm the governor's nominations for them to become effective.
