Penn Pike COO standing trial over 0.137% alcohol in July
By Peter Samuel
George Hatalowich chief operating officer and #2 at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will stand trial July in County Court near Harrisburg for driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.137 and other charges. He crashed his car into the fence of the Hershey entertainment park 9:30pm April 5. He drove far enough away to cop an additional charge of leaving the scene of an accident.
The police report says he drove away northbound in the southbound lane of PA743 (Park Avenue) Hershey generating a charge of failing to remain in the proper lane.
Hatalowich, 44, was not driving a Turnpike car and the incident was not in connection with his Turnpike work. However it has to damage the Turnpike Commission's standing, especially on top of DUI incidents involving the chairman.
Turnpike chairman Timothy Carson resigned earlier this year owning up to two DUI charges in a Turnpike vehicle some time back.
This morning Hatalowich waived his right to a preliminary hearing before a district judge in Derry Township, opting to go straight to a criminal trial scheduled for July 8.
