NTTA recruits car dealership to sign up motorists for TollTag accounts
By Peter Samuel
North Texas Tollway Authority have recruited a car dealership to act as an agent to sign up motorists for TollTag transponder accounts. Sewell Cadillac of 7310 Lemmon Avenue in Dallas is the new location - on the edge of the Dallas Love Field Airport, a short drive west from the Dallas North Tollway on Lovers Lane.
It's the first car dealership to be recruited as a Regional TollTag Partner.
Under the TollTag partner program some 80 organizations provide over-the-counter transponder toll account services - enrolling motorists as NTTA TollTag account holders, and issuing them a sticker tag transponder to apply to their windshield.
The 80 agents are spread over six counties and include a mix of state, city and county government offices and businesses. Prominent among the businesses are grocery/supermarket chains like Kroger and Albertsons.
The majority of new accounts are established via the toiler's website or customer service telephone line, with the sticker tags mailed out to the home or business address. The over-the-counter services are an added convenience and probably get some serendipitous signups.
On the NTTA's all-electronic tollroad system in the Dallas Ft Worth metro area motorists with a TollTag sticker tag pay 15.3c/mile for a 2-axle vehicle. TxDOT-issued TxTags and Houston area EZ TAGs also qualify.
Motorists without one of these sticker tags have their license plate imaged by NTTA cameras and after reference to a motor registry database get a so-called ZipCash bill in the mail that at 23c/mile for a car is 50% more than the sticker tag toll rate.
TollTags also provide more convenience in payment and discounted parking charges at Dallas Ft Worth Airport and Love Field parking lots. And they work on any tollroad in Texas.
