New Jersey Governor James McGreevey announces "Express E-ZPass is here!" with a great ad for new highway speed open road tolling just opened at IC 18W on the New Jersey Turnpike and at the Hillsdale or (now) Pascack Valley toll plaza on the Garden State Parkway. "Motorists can now drive through the Express E-ZPass Lanes without slowing down," says the caption. Then below an alternating Before pic showing a continuous canopy and single toll planes and an After pic focussed on a pair of highway speed open road toll lanes is the following letter from the Governor:

"Dear motorist:

Just over a year ago I made a commitment to alleviate congestion and reduce commuting times on New Jersey’s roads – today we’ve taken a major step in that direction with the introduction of Express E-ZPass on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.

Now through the use of the advanced Express E-ZPass technology, each hour nearly twice the number of vehicles will be able to pass safely through the new express lanes at the Pascack Valley Toll Plaza on the Garden State Parkway and at Interchange 18W on the New Jersey Turnpike.

But these two locations are just the start. By the summer of 2005, Express E-ZPass will also be available in Toms River, Asbury Park, and Raritan on the Garden State Parkway and at Interchange16/18E on the New Jersey Turnpike to provide access to drivers all across the state.

I’m happy to be able to fulfill the promise to improve the quality of your commute and make this opportunity available to you and your family. Drive safe, and enjoy the extra time.

signed James E. McGreevey, Governor"

Then there is picture of the Guv at the controls of a large Cat hydraulic excavator with the caption "Governor McGreevey lends a hand with the construction of E-ZPass Express."

At least he isn't claiming he did it singlehandedly!
