New Jersey Turnpike relocates up the road to Woodbridge
By Peter Samuel
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority has moved north. As of July 1 its official head office was 581 Main Street Woodbridge NJ 07095, which is a highrise office tower being leased by the Turnpike. About a mile away also in Woodbridge the old offices of the New Jersey Highway Authority (NJHA) are being converted to house electronic toll collection and other support staff.
The NJHA is the state entity which ceased to exist July 9, 2003 when the Garden State Parkway (GSP) and other assets of the NJHA were transferred to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
There's a new phone number for the Turnpike's head office: 732 750 5300.
The old-NJHA offices are the nicest of all the offices, set in a parklike setting just off the GSP and featuring a large airy central atrium. The Turnpike has essentially moved most of its staff about 7 miles (11km) closer in to New York City, from the old main offices in New Brunswick at Exit 9.
In Woodbridge they are right at the interchange between the Turnpike Exit 11 and the Parkway's Exit 129, so they are better located to travel out on each.
EARLIER MISTAKE: This corrects a mistake in the first posting in which we confused the new Main Street office building and the old NJHA offices, both in Woodbridge, but quite separate. We also wrongly criticized Mapquest... Apologies.
And thanks to the reader who took the trouble to draw our attention to the mistake. TOLLROADSnews 2006-07-15 CORRECTION 2006-07-17
