TransCore Granted an Additional Five-Year Contract on the Ohio Turnpike

NASHVILLE, TN — June 28, 2016 — The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission (OTIC) has extended its statewide toll collection system and customer service center maintenance services contract with TransCore another five years through May 31, 2021. TransCore will continue to maintain all facets of the OTIC’s toll collection system located throughout Ohio’s turnpike network as well as the customer service center system located in Berea, Ohio.

“For more than 60 years, our top priority has always been the safety of motorists traveling on the Ohio Turnpike,” said OTIC Executive Director Randy Cole. “Having designed and reliably maintained so many of our tolling systems, we are confident that TransCore will ensure our systems continue to operate safely, accurately, and efficiently.”

TransCore began its 40-year partnership with the OTIC in 1975 when it was selected as the Commission’s toll collection system maintenance provider. Since that time TransCore has developed, deployed, and maintained additional toll system technologies.

In 2008, the Commission selected TransCore to deploy a comprehensive electronic toll collection system that first introduced Ohio Turnpike motorists to E-ZPass toll collection. The project upgraded equipment in 97 entry and 132 exit lanes, and also provided new customer payment convenience with 20 automatic toll payment machines. The complete system integrated touch screen terminals, weigh-in-motion sensors, overhead laser scanners, and both pre- and post-class vehicle classification sensors with TransCore’s Digital Video Audit System. TransCore also developed and installed a new customer service center application and corresponding disaster recovery site – all of which will continue to be maintained under the extended agreement.

“As one of the earliest transportation agencies to envision nonstop travel on its toll roads and bridges, the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission fully appreciates the value of safe and reliable transportation facilities. It is our privilege to continue to serve this dedicated group of professionals and their customers,” said Bob Ball, senior vice president, TransCore.
